The 40 Days of Yoga Challenge

As we move from late winter to spring, we’re thinking it might be a great time to set an intention to add something to life, a new habit of mindfulness and self-inquiry.  And your yoga mat can be just the place to reinforce that intention.
Keep track of your practice during the 40 days and we’ll offer a prize to anyone who logs 18 or more practices during that time.

And we’ll finish with a brief yoga nidra guided meditation.

Restorative Yoga / Part of the Restful Sundays Series of the Summer of '23

Give yourself a gift- Permission to relax.

This is the 3rd installment of Dawn’s Restful Sundays Summer Series. Invest in yourself during these special monthly offerings at Strongheart Yoga! Only $23 per person per session.

Many of us are in a state of over-activity and over-doing, even in Summer. A week or weekend away may still involve a lot of “doing”. We may not be aware of how constant busyness impacts us emotionally and physically and we may wind up feeling over- stimulated, stressed out, stiff, tired, cranky and a little resentful of how much is on our list. Our health, sleep patterns, energy levels, and even our relationships can all be affected by doing too much and not slowing down.

The long days of summer, while wonderful, can encourage us to pack more in. And the addition of heat can take a toll on our nervous system. Taking an opportunity to cool down the body and mind can get us back to our healing para-sympathetic state.

Restorative yoga uses props to support the body in long-held poses. It’s a practice of conscious, healing rest. The comfort and ease of these gentle, supported positions facilitates health and relaxation and allows you to discover and experience the benefits of a nurturing relaxation practice. This practice is good for everyone and accessible for everyone.

Class will be led by Dawn Young, ERYT and C-IAYT.   Each session will begin with a brief all levels yoga breath and movement practice, to help facilitate a deeper rest.

Yoga Nidra Guided Meditation with Dawn Young ERYT, C-IAYT

The second installment of restful Summer Sundays. Giving yourself permission to relax.

Yoga Nidra is often referred to as Yoga Sleep, but sleep isn’t actually the intention. During this practice you are encouraged to stay in that sweet spot between sleeping and being awake as you’re guided into an effortless meditative state. This awareness practice can take you on a deep and quiet journey into your own psyche that stills the “fluctuations of the mind” by slowing down brain wave frequencies.

As the mind changes, mental, physical, and emotional tension is released. By resting back on your mat and allowing yourself to be guided, you let your nervous system turn down the fight-or-flight sympathetic nervous system and move into the rest-and-digest parasympathetic nervous system which gives holistic healing of mind and body.

Some gentle movement will begin the practice. Just enough to unwind the body in preparation for laying back and finding ease. You’re encouraged to bring extra blankets and pillows so you can make yourself comfortable. Dawn has extensive training in leading Yoga Nidra and the practice is accessible to everyone.

Learn how stable and fluid movement coupled with breath can improve your pelvic wellness. No previous yoga experience necessary.

Classes will meet at Strongheart Yoga in Warren. Class space is limited, so register early.

This class is by donation as part of our Grand Re-Opening Weekend! If you’ve tried our long-running Chair Yoga before, you know how great it can be for increasing flexibility and working with balance without taxing the wrist and knee joints. We’ll add some moves to maintain the strength we need to keep doing all that we want to do. Flexibility, strength, and balance are the key elements to aging well and that will be our focus in this new, but familiar, class series. For all of us getting older (LOL!) or trying to maintain while recovering from injuries.
